Melody On Zendrum: Modes And Keys

Compiled by Jeremy Slead

For those of you who do not play melodic instruments, modes are essentially musical scales of 7 notes (think "do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, ti, do") but
there are variations that give a different set of notes. (The "8" is simply the "1" again, up an octave). These are called modes. I will outline them
here:

Ionian: (major mode)
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

Dorian:
1 2 b3 4 5 6 b7 8

Phrygian:
1 b2 b3 4 5 b6 b7 8

Lydian:
1 2 3 #4 5 6 7 8

Mixolydian:
1 2 3 4 5 6 b7 8

Aeolian: (minor mode)
1 2 b3 4 5 b6 b7 8

Locrian:
1 b2 b3 4 b5 b6 b7 8

Other common scales (these are Scales, not Modes):

Harmonic Minor:
1 2 b3 4 5 b6 7 8

Pentatonic Minor:
1 b3 4 5 b7 8

Pentatonic Major:
1 2 3 5 6 8

Blues:
1 b3 4 b5 5 b7 8

KEYS

All of the preset melodic maps in the Zendrum are in the key of "C". Here is a list of transpositions for all the different keys: (measured in 1/2
steps, which is how synth transposers work. Do not confuse this with Master Tune! Different animal completely!) I have listed 2 values for each key:
one up and one down. Just decide whether you want higher notes or lower notes, and then perform the proper transposition. You can also make any mode in any key on the Zendrum itself by doing these transpositions to each note on the Zen.

C:
Up 12, 0, or Down 12

C#:
Up 1, Down 11

D:
Up 2, Down 10
